How to pick your SAT test date.

Register about 5–6 weeks before the date you want. College Board's regular registration deadline is roughly three weeks out, and popular test centers fill up before that — registering early protects your choice of location. Once you test, expect scores back in about two weeks (College Board doesn't commit to an exact date in advance; the 8 dates in the table above use a 13-day estimate, always labeled "expected").

Seniors (Class of 2027): August, September, October, and November dates leave enough runway for most early and regular decision deadlines. December is cutting it close for regular decision — confirm your target schools accept December scores before relying on that date.

Juniors (Class of 2028) and earlier: the March, May, and June 2027 dates are the natural first sitting once you've covered most of the tested math in school, leaving fall 2027 open for a retake if you need one. Most colleges superscore, so an earlier attempt can only help.

Frequently asked questions.

When is the next SAT?

The current 2026–2027 SAT cycle runs from August 22, 2026 through June 5, 2027, with eight test dates in total. The table above always shows the next upcoming date, its registration deadline, and its expected score-release window.

How long before the SAT should I register?

Aim to register 5–6 weeks before your test date. College Board's regular registration deadline is typically about three weeks before the test, with a later fee-required deadline around 11–12 days before — but popular test centers fill up well before that, so registering early gives you the best shot at your preferred location.

When do SAT scores come out?

College Board doesn't publish an exact score-release date in advance — its own dates page lists score release as unpublished for every 2026–2027 date. In practice, digital SAT scores are typically available online about 13 days after the test date. Treat any specific date shown here as an expected estimate, not an official release date.

How many times a year is the SAT offered?

For the 2026–2027 cycle, the SAT is offered on 8 dates: August, September, October, November, and December 2026, then March, May, and June 2027 — all open to both U.S. and international students. Registration deadlines fall about three weeks before each date.
