How digital SAT scoring works.
The digital SAT has two sections: Reading & Writing (54 scored questions) and Math (44 scored questions). Each section is reported on its own 200–800 scale, and the two section scores add up to your total 400–1600 score.
Both sections are multistage adaptive: everyone starts with the same Module 1, and how you perform on it determines whether Module 2 is the harder or easier version. Your raw score (the number of questions you answer correctly) is then converted to a scaled score using a process called equating — not a curve — so that scores stay comparable across different test forms and dates.
The tables on this page are approximations built from raw-to-scaled conversion charts released with official digital SAT Bluebook practice tests (satsuite.collegeboard.org). Your official score may vary by a few points depending on the exact form you take.

Frequently asked questions.
Is the digital SAT graded on a curve?
No. The digital SAT uses a statistical process called equating, not a curve — you are never scored against the other students in your room or on your test date. Equating adjusts each form's raw-to-scaled conversion slightly so that a 1400 means the same thing regardless of which specific set of questions you received.
How many questions can I get wrong and still get a 1500?
Based on this chart, you can miss up to about 7 questions total across both sections and still reach 1500 — but the exact split between Reading & Writing and Math misses matters. Use the SAT score goal calculator to see the best-case and balanced miss splits for any target score.
Is this calculator accurate?
It's a close approximation built from raw-to-scaled conversion charts released with official digital SAT Bluebook practice tests. Real equating shifts by a few points between official test forms, so treat results as a reliable estimate rather than your exact official score.
What's a good SAT score in 2026?
The national average digital SAT score is around 1050 (roughly the 53rd percentile). A 1400 or higher puts you in about the top 6% of test takers and is competitive for most selective colleges. Check the SAT percentile calculator to see exactly where any target score ranks.
